Mrs. Beckham's Top 8 Most Important Things to Know
1. THE FOLDER: All of our communication will be
done through your child’s daily folder. Their monthly calendar, snack day,
homework, behavior calendar, notes home, event information, etc will all
travel to and from school and home in the FOLDER!!! Please remove work daily.
Please don’t lose it, bend it, let the dog eat it, or the baby draw on it! On the behavior
calendar, I am asking that you initial each day so I know that you have seen your
child's color. Please do not allow your child to take out their behavior calendar. Only
I will remove them.I keep them for school documentation.
2. THE CALENDAR : A new monthly calendar will be included in your child's folder.
3. HOMEWORK: For homework your
child will be assigned homework at least four days a week. This homework will result in a grade for the nine weeks.
4.SPECIAL EVENTS: Throughout the year we will have lots of special class activities to
make our learning process more fun. I will always try to send the information
home in advance and will usually require some kind of response from you so that
I know you are aware of the activity. If the activity is a field trip, I will
ask for parent chaperones. The office will require you to fill out a volunteer
affidavit and they will have to run your driver’s license through the computer.
If the field trip costs money PLEASE SEND IT IN A SEALED ENVELOPE WITH THE EXACT
AMOUNT, WHAT IT IS FOR AND YOUR CHILD’S NAME WRITTEN ON THE
OUTSIDE.
5. LUNCH: We will go to lunch everday in the cafeteria. This year all children will eat free.
6. REPORT CARDS/CORE STANDARDS: This is the first year we will be switching from the
sunshine state standards to the common core standards (national standards).
Our county has worked all summer long mapping out the core standards month by
month, skill by skill, and they have re-vamped our report card so that our
students will be more prepared for the standardized tests that will be tied to
the core standards. ATTENDANCE is going to be key here. It will be extremely
difficult to keep up without consistent attendance. Please DON’T send your
kids to school sick! However, please don’t have unnecessary absences.
7. BUSES/CAR PICK UP: If your child is going to be a
bus rider, please let me know what bus I am supposed to put them on in the
afternoon and make sure the office knows as well.
If you need to check out your child early from school, you must go to the office
to do so.
8. COMMUNICATION: Please always send me a
note in your child’s folder if there is a problem, concern or question. I will
try to call you as soon as I can, but please remember that I am with the kids
almost the entire day. I will send home a sign up sheet for conferences once we
have gotten a chance to get settled, started, and get the first report card
under our belt. During open house we can exchance cell phone numbers. This
will allow us to be able to text and communicate during the day.
